President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has declared that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best suited person to lead Ghana as President, after the end of his tenure.

He therefore urged Ghanaians to consider Dr Bawumia, alongside his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for the country’s highest office in the upcoming December 7 elections.

At the NPP ’s 2024 Manifesto launch in Takoradi, President Akufo-Addo emphasised that Dr Bawumia’s extensive experience and expertise made him the most qualified candidate to assume the presidency.

The President stated, “I don’t think there’s anybody in this country better placed to testify about the capacity of our presidential ticket than me, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

He appealed to the electorate to vote for Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the ideal candidates to lead the country. He stressed the importance of not just having plans, policies and programmes, but also the essential qualities of character, strength, and determination.

“At the end of the day, plans, policies and programmes, if there’s no character, if there’s no strength, if there’s no determination of will on the part of the people involved, they just remain plans and programmes,” he remarked.

Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Dr Bawumia, President Akufo-Addo recounted their partnership dating back 16 years. “Sixteen years ago, Mahamudu Bawumia and I first met, and decided to join our lives together. I can say that there’s not one day that I’ve regretted joining my life to his and his to me,” he said.

The President lauded Dr Bawumia for his unwavering loyalty, honesty, dedication and patriotism, both in opposition and in government.

He also underscored Dr Bawumia’s deep commitment to Ghana. “He lives and breathes Ghana. Whatever commitments he has made before you and before the people of Ghana, I can put my hand on my heart and say he will deliver on each one of those commitments,” he indicated.

The NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, appealed to Ghanaians to vote massively for the party’s flagbearer in the December 7 polls. He described Bawumia as an “exceptional leader” who would take Ghana to the land of possibilities.

“A prominent man once told me that they are three kinds of leaders: an ordinary leader, an exceptional leader and an incompetent leader. For an ordinary leader, he is the one who accepts the challenges but do not have solutions,” he indicated.

Mr. Frimpong Kodua added: “For an incompetent leader, he is the one who refuses to even admit challenges, and takes delight in ridiculing the people with comments such as ‘I’m not a m magician to create jobs’, such as ‘you have so many phones, that’s why we have unstable electricity’, such as ‘I’ve cancelled nursing and teacher trainee allowances even if it will cost my Presidency”.

He described Dr Bawumia as someone who accepts that there are challenges but continues to proffer solutions to these challenges such as introducing digitalization, medical drone delivery, gold for oil etc.

“Certainly, Dr. Bawumia is an exceptional leader. As for the incompetent leader, your guess is as good as mine. As a Ghanaian, I am concerned about who leads this country in the next four years, and I know all well-meaning Ghanaians are equally concerned, and will therefore choose a leader who will account to them after his four years’ stewardship, opposed to one who, after just four years, will exit office.”

He added:  “With Dr. Bawumia, Ghanaians will have the chance to evaluate his administration after four years, and decide to whether renew his mandate or not. Therefore, Ghanaians can hold him accountable to his manifesto. I trust Dr. Bawumia, and I know that he will be a great President for us.”
