President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the newly constructed School Junction to Motorway Road to enhance road connectivity, and reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The road, connecting School Junction on the Adjiriganor stretch to the Tema Motorway, is expected to significantly improve transportation for residents in East Legon, Ashaley Botwe, and neighbouring communities.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony yesterday, the President said the project aligned with the government’s broader infrastructure agenda. President Akufo-Addo described the new road as a fulfillment of the government’s promises, transforming words into tangible action. “This project is a clear demonstration of my government’s vision for a modern, interconnected, and prosperous Ghana,” he said.

He emphasised that the road does more than just improve transportation, bridging communities, creating economic opportunities, and stimulating growth.

The President lauded the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Department of Urban Roads and the project construction team.

He urged Ghanaians to view this achievement as one of many under his administration. He highlighted the extensive development work taking place across the country, from road construction to healthcare and education infrastructure.

President Akufo-Addo further reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to continuing this transformative journey. “The success of this project, along with numerous other achievements, is a testament to what we can accomplish together. Let’s continue building a greater and brighter Ghana,” he added.

The road project was initiated by the government in August 2022. This project aimed to enhance connectivity from Tema (East) to the western parts of Accra.

Key benefits of the project include improved access to the newly constructed Borteyman Stadium and increased safety for the movement of goods and people across Adentan, Ashaley Botwe, School Junction, Nmai Dzor, Borteyman and Community 18.

The scope of the project involved construction of a 5.8km dual carriageway from School Junction to the Motorway with an asphaltic concrete surface; construction of slip roads on the Tema Motorway with paver block surfaces; installation of walkways and cycling lanes on both sides of the road, traffic signals and streetlights and lay-byes along the route to support public transport. The project was executed by Oswal Investments Ltd., a Ghanaian contractor.
