The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dakoa Newman, has emphasised the critical role trees play in combating climate change, enhancing air quality and providing habitats for wildlife.

She added that trees, not only beautify the environment but also ensure a healthier and more sustainable future.

The Minister said this on Friday at the 2024 Green Ghana Day at the Ministry in Accra. The event was aimed to contribute to the broader agenda of increasing the country’s forest cover and promoting ecological health.

This initiative saw the active participation of key officials including the Minister, the Chief Director and several Directors.

On her part, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr Afisah Zakariah, said the event fosters a sense of responsibility among citizens, particularly the younger generation towards nature.

She said the initiative underscores the ministry’s dedication to integrating environmental consciousness into its programmes and policies.

The tree planting exercise, she noted, is a call to action for all Ghanaians to participate in preserving and nurturing the environment for future generations.
